Hello, everyone! I’ve officially opened www.katiecosplays.com as the new home of my cosplay portfolio! Please check it out, as the site at this address will no longer be updated!

Fall Update: New website opening soon!

Hey, everyone! My apologies for the lack of updates, but I am currently working on a move to a new domain for my cosplay portfolio! Stay tuned! In the meantime, check out my ACP for a look at a few of my new costumes: http://www.acparadise.com/acp/display.php?a=14489

Summer update: Events, costume progress, etc.!

So since my last entry, quite a bit has happened! Seishun-con came and went and was quite fun! I was thrilled to see friends like Megan, Bill, my impromptu co-panelist, and Sam, who ran the costume contest, as well as my fellow judges, Cathy of God Save the Queen Fashions and Steven. The contest ran very smoothly and judging took less than 2 hours. Wooh! I didn’t cosplay while we were judging, but afterward, I changed into Black Lady and grabbed a few shots with Darryl of BGZ Studios. I also filled in on a panel with Bill and a 501st member since the original panelist was sick- Cosplay Horror Stories. We just kind of winged it and told our own personal horror stories, and the panel was actually standing room only— with people lined out the door!! It was a great success. :)

This Father’s Day I participated in an event at the Fernbank Museum for dads called Superhero Dad Day. I was asked by Riddle to wear my Wonder Woman costume along with her Wasp, Jenny‘s Black Canary, and Kevin Spooner’s Captain America costume. It was quite a fun event! Our payment (aside from the hugs from tiny children) was a load of tickets to the Fernbank and their IMAX theatre! We also got to check out their Mythological Creatures exhibit, which was pretty cute. I fell madly in love with a unicorn puppet in their gift shop that I just might go back to buy later.

Then the next weekend, I ended up joining Jenny and Riddle once again for an event, this time at Turner Broadcasting for Adult Swim. They wanted to do a quick feature on Venture Bros. costumers to promote their Venture Bros. costume contest at Comic-con. Even though I literally tower over Jenny as the Monarch and Riddle as my future self, we did our best to make it work! There wasn’t much to say about my costume in the interview bit, so don’t be surprised if my camera-time is cut to a minimum due to the… uninvolved-ness of my costume! XD The best part was helping Jenny transform into a man with latex prosthetics, especially since out of costume, she looked like a MYTHICAL TROLL~! XDDD Hopefully video will be online pretty soon! :)

I’ve also added a page for my Amy Pond costume, complete with new photos from Mobicon and TimeGate. I plan to wear her yet again at Dragon*con with my best friend Diana as Rose! :D I also have new photos for Wonder Woman and Black Lady. :) Now to go work on costumes for Dragon*con!!

Welcoming the summer con season!

So I just returned from Mobicon last weekend- a convention I hadn’t attended since 2006- and it was still about as small as I remember from 5 years ago! I mostly went because I happened to be home visiting Fairhope, and I wanted to see my good friend Karen again. I brought my cousin Lindsay, who enjoyed her first con despite its VERY humble size. I wore my new Doctor Who costume, Victory of the Daleks Amy Pond, as a test run of sorts, and even got my picture taken with the doctor…. from Star Trek: Voyager! LOL

Next weekend, I will be attending TimeGate, a local Doctor Who/Stargate convention (also known to be humble of size) and re-wearing my Amy Pond costume. I’m slightly more excited to be wearing it there because I KNOW more than 2 people will recognize it this time!! lol

Then, the weekend after that, I will be attending Seishun-con II (seriously? 3 small conventions in a row??). I’m not sure if I’ll be attending Friday because I work until 5 that day, but I do plan to wear Black Lady on Saturday, then possibly Fang on Sunday (if I can find time to fix her up) or Shizuma for a Strawberry Panic shoot (if I can organize one that quickly). I also will be judging the costume contest on Saturday, so I’m looking forward to seeing all the cosplay talent that I know Atlanta has! :)

Aside from judging, I will also be doing a panel on the basics of make-up for cosplay. I was originally set to do my panel on Friday at noon, but seeing as how I will be at work from 8-5 that day, we’re currently working on getting me a more realistic time slot. Stay tuned!

Speaking of Black Lady, my costume page for her is now complete! She was my first costume of 2011, so I’m really excited that I might actually be able to keep my website up-to-date this year!! You can go directly to Black Lady’s page by clicking the Newest Costume image to the right. Now I just need to finish the darn thing so I can get some photos of it completed! The wig is also due for a restyle- wouldn’t you know the curls at the end of the pigtails fell out almost as soon as I put it on! That’s cosplay for ya.

Speaking of the unavoidable in cosplay, back in March, I got featured by NerdBastards in their “Sexy Cosplay of the Week” installment. Kind of funny that the author or the website never thought to contact me… If they HAD, I would have informed them that my cosplay handle isn’t “Pink Ninja” (that’s just the name of my domain). But you know, no big deal… I’ve only gone by “Katie” in the cosplay community since I signed up for a cosplay.com account the week after AWA 2004 (around that time, I dropped the handle “ChibiKat” that I had gone by since about age 13… lol). Entertainment for the socially awkward, indeed….

Finally, one last update: I’ve added all new photos of Ami Kawashima from a photoshoot with Benny Lee of EmanonDesigns with my girls Mer and Sam. Please check them out- they are all FABULOUS! A true testament to Benny’s skill! Huge thanks to him (especially for procuring the classroom at Georgia Tech) and my girls for being so much fun to shoot with~. <3

New photos, costumes for sale!

I’ve updated (or created) the photo galleries for several of my costumes from late 2010! Please check out the galleries for Maya Natsume, Wonder Woman, Joan Holloway, Yukari Hayasaka, and Mio Akiyama! The only galleries/pages not yet available for 2010 are Fang (I need to go through the 100+ photos I have of the costume and narrow it down to my top 25! ^^;; ), Fire (still waiting for photos from Leonard, sadly), and Christmas Ami. Sadly, I only have one photo from that shoot as well!

On an unrelated note, I have listed 6 costumes for sale on Cosplay.com’s Marketplace. Please check them out and share the link with your friends if you know they plan to cosplay any of the characters I have for sale! :) Not trying to make a lot of money off these costumes, just want to make more room in my cosplay closet and give them better homes (they do nothing but collect dust otherwise!).
