Swimsuit Lulu
Swimsuit Lulu (original design) Game Title: Final Fantasy X
Character age: 22 (Though I'm going for more of a "teen" version... 17-18ish)
Debut: Anime Expo 2005
Approximate cost: $5
Reason for Cosplaying: I saw pictures of the Final Fantasy swimsuit pool gathering at AX04, and it looked like a lot of fun, so I brainstormed on what character I could possibly be if I were to participate. I thought first about all the bathing suits that I owned, and my black bikini came to my mind first. I then wondered what FF character I could be in a black bikini without a wig, and I decided Lulu would be a good choice, if I dyed my hair black. I also could use this swimsuit as an excuse to practice accessory-making, and man has it EVER been a learning experience. (What Katie learned: MY ACCESSORIES HATE ME.)
Afterthoughts: This costume is seriously cursed. Not only did I leave my pearls at home (had to borrow some less-accurate ones from velvy ;_;), also ALL of the hair sticks broke while in transit. I had to superglue them back together. Then there were the braids. Which absolutely refused to stay attached to my bun. ;_; They kept falling out every minute or so. And don't get me STARTED on the beads. Ok, the red and black beads were fine (even if I did forget to put them on BEFORE I stuck in the hairsticks, making my life rather difficult), but the PURPLE-beaded necklace... Oh ho ho ho. The first time it broke apart and fell to the ground was as I was crossing the street to get to the Hilton. We were running, so I had to stop and pick them up. Then I quickly retied it and put it back on. Then when we got to the pool, it broke again, so in some pictures, you can see my hand holding the necklace together in the back. In other pictures, I'm just not wearing that necklace at all. Anyway, when we got there, the photoshoot was nearly over. Most all of the DOA girls had left (except for the lone Lei Fang!), and even a few of the FF people. As Velv and I were the only X Rikku-Lulu duo, we were swarmed with photographers before we could enter the hot tub for the last group shot. As soon as we did, we were posing for only a few more minutes when security declared it was time to clear out. Gaah. Such a hectic experience. If I EVER go to a pool gathering again, it will be with the simplest bathing suit character EVER. Maybe Sakura from Naruto. Pink bikini + pink wig = END OF STORY.
